Reporting directly to the Chief Accounting Officer, and indirectly to the Supply Chain Finance Leader, the Cost Accounting Manager will lead and direct the cost accounting function for the manufacturing sites under specified area of responsibility. Responsibilities include overseeing, reviewing and executing (as needed) all cost accounting entries according to company policies and conforming to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, reporting and ensuring controls are followed and in full compliance with SOX requirements. Responsible for analyzing and explaining cost variances, working with plant management to understand and address costs within manufacturing, supply chain and logistics, preparing and managing standards, accounting for inventory, supporting CAPEX, and making recommendations for improvements across manufacturing areas, where relevant. Will manage a team of approximately six cost accountants, including at remote manufacturing sites, and expected to travel to manufacturing sites on a regular basis. Will actively participate in and contribute to the transition to a new ERP system over the coming two years. This role interacts closely with accounting and finance peers and the manufacturing site leadership teams, and will proactively share and deploy best practices and agreed approaches. 

Job Requirements


  • Inventory and Standard Costing 
  • Plans, organizes and directs all the activities of the cost accounting function 
  • Develops and maintains standard costs for all plants including ensuring the arrangement of costs of production to material costs, wages, and overhead costs 
  • Proactively analyzes variances and communicates issues and opportunities to senior and operations management 
  • Develops and maintains metrics and tracking system for major cost drivers 
  • Coordinates the monthly reconciliation of all inventory general ledger accounts to the perpetual inventory reports 
  • Prepares and maintains slow moving inventory analysis for all plants within area of responsibility 
  • Works with appropriate production and commercial personnel, ensure adequate inventory reserves are maintained 
  • Coordinates the annual physical inventory count and any other physical counts, as needed
  • Prepares and enters journal entries as needed and reviews journal entries made by direct reports 
  • Analyzes and reconciles general ledger account balances 
  • Prepares expense account analysis as needed 
  • Develops costs for new or special products as needed to support establishing pricing and production forecasting 
  • Provides thought leadership to ensure best practice approach applied to standards setting across the company 
  • Financial Reporting 
  • Assists in the preparation of all monthly financial reports (income and departmental statements) for management review 
  • Performs month-end cost accounting close functions 
  • Assists in the monthly financial statement consolidation 
  • Reviews and analyzes production variances, purchases price variances and absorption variances on a monthly basis; Makes corrections as necessary and reports results to management 
  • Budgeting 
  • Participates in the annual budget process and monthly forecasting process 
  • Works with Supply Chain personnel to determine budget raw material amounts 
  • Works with management of all plants under area of responsibility to develop budget amounts 
  • Accumulates and applies labor and overhead costs to derive standards 
  • Other 
  • Formulates goals and conducts assessments, providing regular feedback on a timely basis and supporting talent development 
  • Assists accounting with tracking of capital projects 
  • Special projects as requested by management 
  • Supplies external audit team with information and analysis for annual audits and quarterly reviews as required 
  • Supplies internal audit team with information & analysis as needed for SOX compliance & operational audits 
  • Follows all safety policies & procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related discipline 
  • CPA or MBA a plus 
  • At least 7 years’ experience in accounting, in particular cost accounting experience 
  • Proficient in financial ERP software 
  • Requires strong oral and written communications skills, computer literacy and professional presentation 
  • Strong analytical skills
